Welcome to the blog of the Hotel St. Gotthard Basel. The word blog is blend of “web log”. Why would a hotel start blogging? We gave it a lot of thought. It’s surely not a new concept. We hear for example about political outcasts blogging, trying to reveal and portray the difficulties in their respective countries. There are fashion bloggers who have reached the status of journalists, because their readership has become so huge, the fashion industry couldn’t afford ignoring them. We don’t really want to use the web as an online diary of our hotel, although it would be really interesting. There are so many exquisite stories to tell about. We don’t really want to simply advertise our hotel. That’s too big of an effort for an independent hotel. We decided to use a blog in order to communicate with people who visit Basel or live in Basel. We want to give them some recommendations in terms of what one can do in Basel; but moreover, we would like to encourage people to tell us about their experience in Basel. It doesn’t matter whether you live in Basel, you’re an expatriate or simply visiting some friends. Tell us in all honesty what you think about our city. We see ourselves as a part of the city. Read “the Family” page and you’ll understand why. We will not only write about topics regarding the city of Basel, but also with reference to the hospitality industry. A lot of information about the city has been taken from Hannes Bertschi’s City Guide who has been writing about his home town for years. We want to also acknowledge the work of Basel Tourism. Without their brochures, we wouldn’t have known where to start.
We hope we’ve motivated you enough to start contributing. If you wish to post one of your experiences in Basel, go ahead – don’t be shy.
