Transportation

Many Swiss cities have a very good network of public transportation. In Basel we trams (Drämmli). The green trams belong to the Basler Verkehrsbetriebe (BVB); as for the yellow trams, they are operated by Baselland Transport (BLT). If you’re not a tourist staying in a hotel, tickets need to be purchased before travelling. Hotel guests staying in Basel-City receive a mobility ticket, which allows them to travel within this travel grid for free (see plan). Their are alos a number of buses which take you across town of course; however in the city center you more often see trams.

Althoug we from the Hotel St. Gotthard Basel love the public transportation system for its excellent timetable, cleanliness and dense grid, we unfortunately suffer tremendously from its noise. Many guests staying in the 1st floor towards the Centralbahnstrasse who like to sleep with their window open, hear the noise of the trams. There’s always two sides to a coin. On one hand, we are very centrally located, on the other hand, we cannot stop the trams from running. Dear future guests, please ask for a room toward the yard, the Heumattstrasse or simply one that’s on the 3rd or 4th floor especially if you know that you have a light sleep or if you like to leave the window open. Thanks for your understanding, we try our best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. For all of you who stayed with us and were disrupted of the tram noise, please accept our sincerest apologies.
